Bessie Robbins
June 3, 1909 - December 15, 2009

On Saturday, December 19, 2009, the funeral was held for our dear sister Bessie G. Robbins and her body was laid to rest in the certain hope of the resurrection at the last day. To say that Bessie had endeared herself to this congregation and encouraged all of us to greater service would be an understatement. Until her last few months, Bessie did not show in action or appearance the 100 years she had reached. She was faithful in her attendance until it became impossible, but retained the desire for worship with her brothers and sisters in Christ, often expressing her longing to be there.

Sister Bessie will be remembered for many good and exemplary things. She cared for her family in every way possible. Her sister, Velma, lived with Bessie for some time and they were very close. Bessie answered the call for ladies to help assemble the aircraft desperately needed in World War II and continued to do so for many years. Her kindness and humility were traits obvious to all. But the thing I will remember most about Bessie was her love for the Lord and His cause. She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. She had strong resolve to serve the Lord faithfully and stand for the truth. Her strength was an asset to the church in California where she worshipped as well as at 84th Street congregation. During my time here, she has always been at the end of our row -- a sterling reminder to all who looked toward the front that if Bessie could be there with the aches, pains and trails of so many years, surely we should be more diligent as well. We are thankful for the memory of our dear sister and hope to be reunited in heavenly joy.
